Mount Vernon, WA – The holidays will have some extra cheer this year for immigrants in Skagit, Whatcom and Snohomish counties, courtesy of a fundraiser sponsored by Immigrant Resources and Immediate Support (IRIS), a local non-profit organization.
Northwest residents can support this project by making a donation to IRIS. A $100 contribution provides a child with winter clothing, a book and toy; $200+ will supply winter wear and gifts to two or more children; and for $400, a family will receive groceries, small presents and other necessities. Critically needed items such as blankets, bedding, clothing, household items, and rent or utility bill subsidies will be provided for a gift of 25-$99.
Donations may be made online at irisnw.org/donate or mailed to IRIS, 1050 Larrabee Avenue, Suite 104, #498, Bellingham, WA 98225. Donors will receive a profile of the individual or family sponsored.
December 15 is the deadline for donations, in order for agency volunteers to have time to purchase, wrap and deliver all gifts. Items will be distributed to individuals already pre-screened by IRIS.
“This year, far too many immigrant families are struggling to provide for basic needs, in order to stay safe, warm and fed this holiday season,” says Leta Sanchez, IRIS Executive Director and local immigration attorney. Continues Sanchez, “Most are unable to afford Christmas presents for their children. These gifts will offer hope, by providing critical items and seasonal cheer.”
Immigrant Resources and Immediate Support (IRIS NW) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization established to meet the urgent, unmet needs of immigrant families in Skagit, Whatcom and Snohomish counties.
